Bulgaria First EU Country to Authorise the Sale of CBD

The demand for hemp-derived cannabidiol, or CBD, has increased exponentially in recent years due to a large onslaught of published studies and media coverage reporting on the benefits of this non-intoxicating compound. Despite its effectiveness, CBD still inhabits a grey area when it comes to legality.

While the legal status of CBD is still up in the air in many parts of the world, Bulgaria has officially become the first European Union (EU) country to authorize the sale of CBD products in open markets.

According to official documents obtained exclusively, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, has granted this authorization in the form of a Free Certificate of Sale for a series of products containing CBD.

This means that Kannaway products are now certified to “comply fully with relevant requirements of the Law on Foodstuffs of the Republic of Bulgaria and of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of European Parliament and the Council on the hygiene of foodstuffs.”

This success was predicated on Kannaway’s meeting with Bulgarian government officials and regulatory bodies earlier this year.
